Christians and BCI's (Brain / Computer Interfaces) Where do we stand?slll
I watched a documentary last night that I found very interesting, exciting and infiormative until I processed it a bit more and then applied some critical thinking and then I began to see and feel the magnitude of it all and it forced me to face the severity of what we face as humanity. I want to ask you a question, its a question you may want to ask yourself. What does it mean to be human? As a Christian woman, it means more than just this physical three demensional body. Chrisians believe that our body is our temple to our soul. We are facing a frightening choice humanity as a whole. We are apon a transhumanism era. Theres no turning back now, Technology is advanceing so fast we arent able to turn away. Techonology like Neurolink can make a blind person see. We have four technologies that are in fast developement now in full development, they are called the grin technologies, Genetics, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Nanotechnology. I was thinking to myself, what is going to happen when Artificial intelegence and robotics join together? It is a slipery slope we are on and I for one am terrified. Not for myself but for my grand children. For your childrens children. The scariest of the four is a Genetic revolution. It is going to give us God like powers. We are going to be able to upgrade our gnome. Can you imagine what a world looks like when we can Upgrade our immune system or reprogram our DNA all from a chip that sits in our brain? I am wondering though, what are the consequences of us evolving ourselves out of the human species? We will be able to google anything with just a thought, it can give us navigation directions to Aunt Judys and Uncle Sams just by thinking about it and directing that thought. Thats pretty profound! We as humans have a lot of frailties that has the possibilty to upgrade. We will feel like gods. How could we not? But as with everything else in human existance if the human ego gets involved we will have some trouble, our feeling like gods will turn into we will think we are gods. When you think about it, the technoogy that would be placed in us is as fine as a human hair. Thats remarkable evoloution in technoogy since the 1956 when VCRs first came out. What happens when this technology becomes more mainstream and affordable? Where everyone is getting it. Have you tried to live a week or even a day wihtout your phone? Its nearly impossible. We have become so reliable on technology for directions, banking, communication etc.. I did my own experiment. I wanted to see if I could continue to live my life the way I usually do for an entire week without my devices. So I put away my iphone to see if I could continue my normal every day life for a week without it. I lasted a day. It was impossible. I had to meet someone in a town outside of the twin cites and I didnt have a map. I talked to my editor regarding my memoir Im writing and I couldnt give her an update on my manuscript becasue it was on my phones and computer. I wanted to send my daughter a message asking her when would be a good time to drop off the easter basket I have for her two furbabies Dukey and Nana. I couldnt sent her the text. It astounded me how much we rely on technology.
So in moving forward with the neurolink technology I think it will do amazing things for people. It gave a man named Brad who was diagnosed with ALS better known as Lou Garrett disease, a second chance at life with his three young kids by allowing him to communicate and actually play with his kids launching rockets outside at a park near thier home. I dont deny that it can do so many amazing things for changing how we handle terminal diseases and handicaps but everything evolves. Evolourtion and advannements is certain. Are we capable of finding healing modalites in an more organic way? Say, thorugh Nature?
Nomatter where you stand on this advancement There is one thing becoming very clear. There is no way to escape it. Its already here, it just may not be a present force in your life right now.
As a Christian and as a deciple for Jesus what does this look like for us? To get the answer we must turn to the gospel. While Scripture does not directly address AI, its foundational teachings provide timeless wisdom for how humans should approach any technological advancement. God’s word emphasizes:
• Our creativity is part of bearing His image.
• We are stewards, not owners, of His creation.
• Pride is a perpetual danger, calling us to humility.
• Ethical use of innovation must align with biblical principles.
• Ultimate hope cannot rest in human achievement but in Christ, whose resurrection seals our salvation.
As we enter this era of BCI's and human ehanncement technolgiesI am drawn to Jesus teachings and meditating on them. I got my answer finally through prayer. Christains believe that God is a man. He humbled himself and became man and he yet he is both God and man to become man to suffer and die on the cross to save all humanity. I am no opponient to getting rid the fraities of humanity but to what point? At what cost? Does it mean its to the point we come out unrecognizable?
One of the most critical questions we need to be asking ourselves is what does it mean to be a human being and is our humanity worth preserving? There has been no other generation in humanitys history that has had to aske themselves this question. That is something unique in our generation or at least we have a unique technological power. To the modern secular atheist lib, its doesnt matter. Well, that's awesome. I don't wanna be human bei To a Christian God is a man God becomes fully God and fully man so what does that mean? What does that mean? The answer I recieved through meditation and prayer is this when I asked God what does it mean to be human? God placed on my heart these words. when I asked him what does it mean to be a human? It means that you in accepting this technological advacnentment/ we are alteering Gods work in creating us in the image of him and we forfiet the canadacy of Gods salvation we reicieve from Christ on the Cross yDbecasue he became a man to redeem mankind. So if your a Christian you need to pay close attention because the Gospel of Christ is precisely about the son of God humbling himself to become one of us in order to redeem us as a kinsman redeemer. So, theres only one qualifaction to recieve the salvation from the Cross from Christ.
You must be Human.
